The American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) lead scientific publishing in the fields of agronomy, crop, soil, and environmental sciences. The Societies’ publications include 13 journals, with articles published as early as 1907, a professional book library containing more than 340 titles, two magazines, and our monthly podcast Field, Lab, Earth. Our content host, the Wiley Online Library, reaches millions of readers all over the world. Our peer-reviewed scientific journals are indexed in Google Scholar, Web of Science, CrossRef, Scopus, Agricola, CABI, and more for increased discoverability.

At the ASA-CSSA-SSSA Annual Meeting, the Publications Group offers sessions where meeting attendees can develop their writing, editing, and peer review skills, and learn to promote their published article to maximize impact. Attendees can “Meet the Editors” of the society journals to connect with journal editors, ask questions, share feedback, and learn which journal is appropriate to publish their work.

Publications are also featured in the Society Center in the Exhibit Hall. Stop by to order a book, have your publishing questions answered, learn about our podcast, or discuss a book proposal.

Preparing Your Research for Article Submission
You’ve done the research, and now crafting the journal article seems insurmountable! Let us guide you through the process of putting your hard work into an appropriate format for submission. This session is aimed toward those new to publishing.

Peer Review: Benefits and Opportunities or Why I Should Peer Review
This session encourages individuals to begin peer reviewing for a journal, or to reassess the way that they already peer review. Attendees will hear from a panel of researchers from diverse career stages sharing their experiences as a peer reviewer. Peer-reviewing manuscript submissions expands published content for all researchers in an area of study.

Both Sides of the Peer Review: How to Conduct One and How to React to One
This panel discussion focuses on conducting a good peer review. The panel of journal editors, early-career researchers, and graduate students will also touch on topics such as common mistakes made in article development, expectations from the review process, and how to react to negative comments.

Special Session: Maximize the Impact for Your Published Work
Now more than ever, it is important that authors are in position to be found and this can be helped through search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is the process of improving the ranking of a webpage in search engine results so your article appears at the top of the list in an online search. This presentation will focus on four broad steps: use keywords, choose a smart title, and write a good abstract and build links.
